Backup Server

Postby Garyc » Mon Sep 07, 2009 8:38 am

Hi we have almost agreed to buy the small business edition for our office, however we would like to have a duplicate off-site server that is rsyncd every night. (may use LVM as well for more periodic syncs, as install ASSP for spam and attachment filtering).

We have speced a quad core xeon, with 3ware Raid 1 on samsung F1R Drives, and a Sony AIT Tape Drive.

Is this allowable to do this with the license, as long as the license is only actively being used on our primary server. Or can we use a community install on our backup server, and then apply our license onto it if the primary server fails to "turn it into" a full install.

We also may *still* cluster 2 server for fail-over, how does licensing work here,

many thanks in advance

Gary

I don't believe a rsync copy is in violatiion of the SBE license, but Florian is a better one to ask there. However, a true fail-over cluster will require an EE license, as well as an external disk array (SAN or iSCSI).
