Installation on Fedora 9

i'm trying to install latest 11.4 on my fedora 9 and get following messages in log file when installtion fails

not immediately. couple ideas:

1. can you try doing the install with your locale (LANG) set to en_US.UTF-8 - just to be sure?

(Note: to reset the whole installation, try to run the installer and uninstall everything, then see if all-scalix is gone, i.e. rpm -qa | grep scalix, delete all the scalix directories rm -rf /var/opt/scalix* /etc/opt/scalix* /opt/scalix* /var/log/scalix*)

2. are your hostnames consistent? hard to tell, because you seem to have edited part of the logfile. I assume your real hostname starts with 'o' and ends with 'n'? stuff really needs to be consistent, i.e. if your hostname is

florian.company.com

and your ip address is

1.2.3.4

then you should have

1.2.3.4. florian.company.com florian

in your /etc/hosts

hostname should return florian
hostname -s should return florian
hostname --fqdn should return florian.company.com

and during installation, the scalix installer should create a directory called /var/opt/scalix/fn/...

I also assume the Postgres version that you're using was the one that came with Fedora? (Don't have a Fedora system here to compare version numbers!)

i tried the way you described...first remove all scalix installation using the scalix-installer, then erased all scalix folders and also the postgres packages ... after this tried to do a fresh install, in this case scalix won't install cause of the missing postgres ... installed postgresql and postgresql-server again using yum ... so installtion starts and ends on same error as before ... the only thing i haven't tried is the lang-set to en_US.UTF-8 but i can't believe that this will cause the error ...

the folder /var/opt/scalix/fn/... is NOT created there's only /var/opt/scalix/on nothing more nothing less

rpm -qa |grep postgre results this

maybe one postgres package is missing but there was no dependency installing postgresql and postgresql-server

again, have you setup your hostnames consistently and verified as I suggested?

the two letters in the path name should actually be the first and last letter of your short hostname by default, e.g. if your hostname is

scalixserver01.company.com

you would end up with

/var/opt/scalix/s1

as the default instance directory.

Based on my experiences with Fedora + Scalix (read about it here: http://www.scalix.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=11245), I would recommend switching to CentOS before getting too committed. And even if you are, my move from Fedora to CentOS went completely smooth except for Scalix. So make it before Scalix is all said and done.
