Scalix 10 on SuSE 10?

Postby Kanan » Wed Feb 15, 2006 12:09 am

So I anxiously downloaded the newly released version in hopes of getting to kick the tires on this product. However, upon going to do so, I hit a small snafu... Ok, a big snafu:

sh ./scalix-installer

Scalix Installer - extracting archive, please wait...
Scalix Installer - starting version 10.0.0.351...
Scalix Installer - using Python 2.4.1.
Error: unsupported OS release: SUSE LINUX 10.0 (i586) on i386
Scalix Installer - cleaning up...
Scalix Installer - stopped.

Sooooo, what am I doing wrong here?

Thanks in advance!

Robert

I ran into this too trying to run the GUI install. Run

Code: Select all

./scalix-installer --cli

This runs the installer in command line mode. It saves having to get Python 2.4.1 which I couldn't find.

Don

I’m having exactly the same problem when attempting to run the GUI or the CLI installation. I’m sure it’s something stupid that I’m doing but would really appreciate some help.

SuSE 10 & Scalix 10

Thanks

Neil

I had a similar problem in the past and endup modifying /etc/SuSE-release to something it liked. Can anyone post the contents of /etc/SuSE-release of Open SuSE 10 please?

Thanks,
Pierre

I did modify the /etc/SuSE-release to 9.3 after reading another post but other than changing the message to "Error: unsupported OS release: SUSE LINUX 9.3 (i586) on i386" there was no difference.

I'm not sure who Sascha's last post was aimed at but here is my /etc/SuSE-release file and output from uname -a

SUSE LINUX 10.0 (i586)
VERSION = 10.0

Linux mail 2.6.13-15.7-default #1 Tue Nov 29 14:32:29 UTC 2005 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

Thanks

Just out of interest I copied the “scalix-9.4.2-community-intel-rh” directory from my working Fedora/Scalix server to my non-working SuSE 10/Scalix server and ran “sh scalix-installer-community” and up came the installer. I didn’t make any other changes. Not sure if it helps but thought I would mention it.

My SuSE-release is exactly the same as the previous posters:

SUSE LINUX 10.0 (i586)
VERSION = 10.0

Linux dock 2.6.13-15.7-default #1 Tue Nov 29 14:32:29 UTC 2005 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux

At least I'm not the only one seeing this. I thought I was losing my mind!

I know you will all hate me for this, but anyway ....

Supported platforms are:

    Server Software (i386, x86_64):
    Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 and 4;
    SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9;
    Fedora Core 4;
    SUSE Linux OSS 10.0 (Note: Fedora Core 3 and SUSE Linux Professional 9.3 and SUSE Linux 10 are not supported in Scalix 10.0)

HOWEVER, I believe adding OSS to the version string in /etc/Suse-release will get you going.

SUSE LINUX 10.0 (i586) OSS

Cheers,

Sascha.

That does it, thanks! The odd part is, as far as I know, this IS the OSS version... Interesting!

Now, I have one other question, is there some way to make Scalix bind itself to a single IP? My server has another IP on it that has some services running on already that the installer is detecting and puking over. Curious if there is a way to tell it to ignore that IP and install on a provided IP.

Again, thanks for the quick response!

OpenSuSE 10 supported, SuSE 10 (paid version) unsupported

Postby ScalixSupport » Wed Feb 15, 2006 4:54 pm

Hi,

Although editing the /etc/SuSE-release file will work as Sascha suggested, OSS 10 is supported. SuSE 10 is officially not supported.

Hi Robert,

For the purposes of installing can you take down your second ip interface?

Thanks,
Don

Actually I did not describe this accurately. It is actually the primary IP of the box that I have the services running on, it was a vif/alias/whatever.you.want.to.call.it that I wanted to install Scalix on. I went through and configured the box so all the services I am using only listen on the primary IP (ie. doesnt bind 0.0.0.0).

Does one may ask as to *why* that is? SuSE 10 vs. SuSE 10 OSS ?
