Dogged by dependencies!

Postby astring@magbelle.com » Tue Jun 09, 2009 1:39 pm

I am experiencing problems with the installation of 11.4.3(.2569) on RHEL 5.2.

The errors are as follows:

System check report:

Environment check passed.
Filesystem check passed.
Network check passed.
Dependency check failed -- The cyrus-sasl-md5 package is needed by the Scalix Server.
Dependency check failed -- Please resolve the following package conflicts and re-run the system checks:

postgresql-server < 9 is needed by scalix-postgres-11.4.3.2221-1.noarch
Running services check passed.
Community license check passed.

This is not even close to my first install (but it has been a while). I have all of the above prereqs installed
and functioning on this server. All were installed from source code and compiled on this server. I am still
getting the same dependency errors as prior to the install of any of the above mentioned packages.

Could you point me in the correct direction? Leave a trail of bread crumbs? Send up some smoke signals?

Thanks,

Allen

Because those dependencies were installed from source and compiled on your server, RPM probably does not know about them. Try installing them with rpm or yum.

If you install something on a RH-based system from source, I would recommend you build a RPM from that and install that, making sure the correct dependency information gets exported, so RPM knows about it.

On a different note, why build from source on a RH system? You get more features (probably), but you break the binary compatibility guarantees RH has. And you will likely lose your support on those apps, as RH can't resolve issues with different package versions.

Old habits die hard. I remember when rpm's were new. I guess I'll
have to join the 90's :D
