using an existing ldap server

We are in the process of migrating to Scalix and already have an existing ldap server on our network. I can't find any references to taking advantage of this server, rather then implementing ldap on the scalix server. Is this possible? If so, do I simply point the Scalix server to our existing ldap server?

Scalix provides its own LDAP server. However, you can create your user entries in your primary LDAP and have Scalix use it for authentication and to manage mailboxes. Read up on it in the omldapsync man page.

So are you saying that I can not remove the Scalix ldap server, simply sync my data from my existing ldap server?

The Scalix LDAP server is needed for SWA, amongst others. If your existing LDAP has a compatible schema, and you set up ldapsync correctly you can have the LDAP server create accounts in Scalix, yes.

Best of luck doing it, after wasting tons of time reading the forums and trial and error I got it to authenticate against our LDAP server but it is still poorly documented and a pain to get working.

You can definitely tell alot about Commercial Off the Shelf Software by how many hoops or how well documented their support for LDAP servers is. If you need help I can looup some of the notes I made
