Hi Everyone,

I have 1 server running 11.3 and I want to install "Backup" server for it with 11.4, eventually my plan is update original server to 11.4 after backup server is up and running. I have backup from our original mail server, so I tried to copy whole scalix folder into "BackUp" Server, but it didn't work. I looked through forums and it is seems like I need to install 11.3 first and then upload scalix folder and then upgrade to 11.4. I installed 11.3 and copied scalix folder from back up and still no luck. I do have individual mail boxes backed up and could have used import tool, but it takes a long time.
I was wondering a less painful way to create second server and restore back up on it?

Thanks a lot in advance.

If the server has the same name, the 11.3, restore /var/opt/scalix should work.

Does it have to have same IP address?

It should do, but you could change it:

Just to make sure I understand correctly, does that mean that I can setup another server, and just copy the /var/opt/scalix directory over, even if the "new" server has 11.4 instead of the 11.3 of my "old" server? What if I want the new server to use a different distro (i.e. moving from Fedora to CentOS)?

I've never testd it, but theoretically, yes. Don't use a different distro - every change you make can cause problems.

Ok, so what is the best procedure to change distros?

Also, make sure that the installed packages on the server matches. You can't have 11.3 installed and sync a 11.4 mailbox, the version of the mailstore is not compatible, so you won't be able to start Scalix.

As for changing distros on the server (even for major-version changes), I've always gone the re-install route. Saves time in the long run.

My plan was to completely reinstall the OS and Scalix. But how do I copy the mailstore?

1) Make a backup of /var/opt/scalix on the old server
2) Set up the new server with the same IP address and hostname
3) Install the OS and Scalix on it
4) Let Scalix create a default mailstore
5) Backup this mailstore
6) Restore your old /var/opt/scalix
7) ompatchom
8) Start Scalix and test

There may be small issues remaining, but you should be able to fix all of them.
