Hi Scalix-Community,

Got some serious issues atm ... Scalix SRV (fedora5 - scalix v10.x) crashed a few days ago. Now we finally managed it to get the whole /var/opt/scalix filestructure from the crashed harddisk(s).

Is it possible, to restore the data on a "this post will be deleted" scalix v11.4.2.x, even if the OS is not the same? (debian etch - We know, it's officially unsupported).

I don't think that should be a problem.

But why restoring to an unsupported distribution? That's going to give you a lot of troubles in the future, when you want to upgrade scalix.

I'm just the installing and configuration guy, the other descisions are (unfortunately) not part of my job ... If I could choose, I would use CentOS 5 ...

1) Shut down Scalix
2) Make a backup of the empty mailstore (just in case)
3) Copy /var/opt/scalix/??/s to /var/opt/scalix/??/s on the server (even if the two ??'s doesn't match)
4) Make VERY sure ownerships and permissions are correct
5) run ompatchom
6) Restart Scalix

Mh ok, I could convice my capo ... We will use Fedora 9 (we're using the Community Edition = Suppored OS)

Does this "copy paste" tactic work? I can't imagine that it's easy like this 0o

Are there any migration tutorials here in the forum? Couldn't find any <.<

//EDIT: Mhh just read, that Fedora 9 is just supported for testing <.< damn, the only supported free OS is Cent OS 4/5, never worked with it ...

You're better off restoring to the same OS and version, and then upgrading, but you should be able to restore it to an 11.x system and run ompatchom, you might just have a bunch of problems as we've never tested this.

Mhhh, you said Fedora is basically the same as Centos, Fedora Core 4 ("old" dead scalix srv) or Centos 5, what's the better & more secure way for restore? It's a very old scalix version (10.0.0.343) ...

If you're changing the OS, it doesn't really matter which one... 5 is newer, so should have fewer bugs

Just remember that for early versions of Scalix CentOS was not recognised, so it will work, but you will have to change the /etc/redhat-release to pretend to be RHEL. in addition, not all of them have packages for RHEL 5, some only support RHEL 4, but I can't recall when that was.
