Hi,

What I have right now is:

Scalix 11.3 on CentOS 4.5

What I want is:

Scalix 11.4 on Centos5.2

I want to upgrade the Scalix as well as Operating System. Would upgrading first Scalix to 11.4 and then upgrading OS through Software Updater work?

Or do I have to go for migration?

There are like 150 users alreday cretaed on my server. I dont want to re-create all these users and apart from user I have there spam folder setting & server setings in place. I just dont want to redo all these stuff again.

Suggest me something guys. Thanks, your help is appreciated.

Well, 11.3 and 11.4 both support Centos 4 and 5:
http://downloads.scalix.com/.community/ ... #supported
http://downloads.scalix.com/.community/ ... #supported

so you can either upgrade the OS, then the application, or the other way around.

Before you do anything, back up. Then, just for good measure, back up again.

What I had planned was to install centos 5 on new machine along with Scalix 11.3 on it then restore the Scalix backup from existing machine. Lastlu\y upgrade 11.3 to 11.4.

Would this process work fine?

As far as I remember the OS for the new machine has to be same as it is for the existing machine or else the backup will not be restored properly. Can someone confirm this please.

If you search the forum you will find LOTS of threads on this topic.

From my experience, you are on the right track. If you have the luxury of new hardware, install CentOS 5 the SAME version of Scalix on this new system. Move the data using rsync from the old system to the new system then test it. Once you are comfortable with this new install, migrate your users to the new system. Then test it again. Once you are comfortable with the new system, update the Scalix to 11.4.2. YMMV.

Best regards,
Fred

Guys, that was successful. Here is what I exactly did.

Install centos 5
Install Scalix 11.3
Install AV & Anti-Spam
Stop Scalix & Restore backup from previous Scalix Version 11.3
Reinstall Scalix 11.3
Upgrade Scalix to 11.4

But some lines of my configuration in smtpd.cfg are not completely restored. I had some entries in 11.3 version of Scalix which are missing upon upgradation to 11.4. I haven't checked other files though.

Basically I added some of the IP's / hostnames of other server in smtpd.cfg file that are missing upon upgradation. I think copying those lines back will fix it.
