Hello,

it's the first time I trying to work with scalix. Maybe you can help me with some of my questions. I'm using Scalix on CentOS 5.2.

1. How can I set rights on public folders, I can create the with "omaddbb -s "Name" but my user can't create folders, because he hasn't the right to do this?

2. How can I create a public calender?

3. How can I backup my scalix in the community editon?

4. How can I conntect Thunderbird to my scalix server?

1. How can I set rights on public folders, ...

First thing to understand about Scalix: it's hosted by an unix based OS. But the permission schema follows Microsoft way of doing things.
*YOU* can NOT set any rights to the Public Folders folder. Those are already set to *write* to anyone that puts material there, and read for everyone else by default. One can create a sub-folder inside "Public Folders" for example using SWA, just by clicking and dragging a folder from the personal Mailbox. Only the individual creator of those sub-folders can set/change those permissions, even so that others can delete them.

The one that you created by-hand from a shell with omaddbb -s is probably owned by sxadmin. Login as sxadmin from SWA, right-click on it and fine-tune the permissions like that.

2. How can I create a public calender?

As for email, calendar, contacts (or tasks), from SWA just create a *Local Folder* calendar (as sxadmin user in SWA for example) and drag that folder to the 'Public Folders'

3. How can I backup my scalix in the community editon?

You may use a professional backup software (Legato, Veritas, Arkeia, etc) to backup to whole server or parts of it. Or you can use some unix based script to replicate the scalix tree of just the mailstore somewhere else. Some scripts run via crontab, and use 'rsync' or tar as the soul of the backup strategy. Do a search on this forum for 'backup script'. You'll find very sophisticated solutions.

4. How can I conntect Thunderbird to my scalix server?

Just set it as an IMAP client. You may also use Lightning extention to gain access to calendar. Just search this forum on the subject.
