11.3 t o 11.4 Upgrade Question

Postby knobby » Wed Jul 09, 2008 11:30 pm

I'm getting ready to upgrade to 11.4. I have looked over the upgrade pdf and I see it will ask for the secure communications password and the the scalix user password for postgres. I believe I know what these passwords were when we install 11.3, but I'm not 100% certain. Is there a way to find the current secure communications password, or will it be reset to whatever I enter in the wizard during upgrade? We are currently only using one server for Scalix so I believe there should be no secure communication anyway. And for the postgres user, for some reason I'm having trouble with that too. I can't seem to run the psql command and connect to the database to test logging in or change the password for the scalix user. This is the message I'm getting:

Code: Select all

[root@host ~]# psql
psql: could not connect to server: No such file or directory
Is the server running locally and accepting
connections on Unix domain socket "/tmp/.s.PGSQL.5432"?

Shouldn't that normally work? I haven't used postgres a whole lot before, any suggestions on what to do would be appreciated.

Hi,

you have to be user postgres and tell psql where it lives and on which port it listens. On our installation, the command:

su - postgres -c 'psql -h /var/opt/scalix/sx/postgres/data -p 5733'

does the trick. It doesn't ask for a password when you run it as user root.

Thanks very much! I can get to a psql prompt now so I am fine on the database password. Anyone know how to check or reset the secure communications password that is asked for during upgrade?

I have found this thread: viewtopic.php?t=11024&highlight=scalix+secure+communications+password which says:

Quote:

Do you know where the password is set in the SAC configuration and the Scalix configuration?

you can change / add passwords using ommodu.

Check that you have the correct sxadmin / sxqueryadmin password in /var/opt/scalix/<xx>/caa/scalix.res/config/psdata and that neither of these accounts is locked (usually because of a lot of password failures from you trying to log in...)

Also, SAC wants the auth-id, as you'll see in omshowu.

Does that mean the text in the file mentioned above is the password that is asked for during the upgrade?

Yes. the secure communication password is stored in plain text in....
/var/opt/scalix/??/caa/scalix.res/config/psdata

I believe, but could be wrong, that the postgres password is the same as the one stored in the hibernate config at the end of...

/var/opt/scalix/??/platform/platform.properties

Thanks Les,

You are correct, the postgres password is in the file you mentioned.

I did the upgrade last night and it went very well. The installer asked for the secure communications password, which I had. I did not think to try putting the wrong password in and see if it errors or updates the password with whatever I put in, but no matter. The installer did not ask for the postgres password again, it pulled that from the 11.3 install.
