New HA Cluster Questions

Postby jillrae » Tue Feb 26, 2008 3:28 pm

I am configuring a new HA cluster of 2 SLES 10 servers both connected to an external shared storage array of 8 HDs. The SAN is divied into 2 RAID 1+0 arrays which are in turn hooked directly to each server via one network cable.

OK, I am using the TB/TB-2007-02-HACLUSTER technical document as I will be running the latest version of Scalix on the servers. Here are my questions:

1. According to the diagram in the TB, it shows the use of 4 netowrk cables. My shared storage has 4 ethernet prots and both servers have 2 ethernet cards. If I connect one cable from each server to it's respective side of the shared storage, and use the othe storage ports on cross connect them to the 2nd ethernet card on each server, How will I connect my servers to the network?? Or am I interuperting this all wrong. I just don't understand what the the physical conncetion and what is the virtual connection.

2. If I understand correctly, I use the array for each server to create a Volume Group and then a logical Volume just like I do when i install Scalix on a single server?

3. When I install Scalix, what part of the software will be on the internal hard drive and what part will be on the shared storage logical volume?

4. If my mail domain name is linux.xyz.com and I name my 2 servers mail1.xyz.com and mail2.xyz.com, how do i map my Internet mail domain to the dominat mail1.xyz.com server?

5. If i understand correctly, the node names and instance names are different as well as their associated IP address? Which one do I use to route mail to form the Internet?

6. I am running a single server instance of Scalix 11.1 and will be running Scalix 11.3v1 on the new cluster. I plan on using sxmboxexp/sxmbox import to move the old mailboxes to the new cluster. Can I do this if the servers are running the 2 different versions?

Sorry I have so many questions, but I really must understand what is going on here.

Thanks

You know I think I might have the physical setup on the shared storage wrong. I think they need to be plugged into the switch so each server can reach either RAID.

I had one of those AHA moments after I was reading my original posts.
