difference of domain settings

Hi everybody,

i'm quite not familiar with the different domain settings out of the sac. could someone be so kind to tell some use-cases when entering some domain?

to be more precise:
Under "settings" -> Mailserver:<MSName> ->"general"(allgemein) -> DefaultDomain.
same page: Settings for mailadress-> rule of mailadress and mailadressdomain.
Under"Settings"-> "administration"--> "general" -> local domains.

These localdomains you can choose from from entering a new user. my thought was, that this user has then the ability to choose from which adress he can send, but swa tells me, that the user hasn't got the rights to send with this adress.
I don't want to grant rights to every user, better would be when grant rights directly when creating a user.

Thank you

Hello

You are right.

You can create multiple domains for each user under SAC. The user then can RECIEVE mail under each of those domains. However the users outgoing email address is set by the administrator and is the address at the TOP of the list (in SAC), or the first address in omshowu -n "First Last"

Hope this helps

Mike

The workaround would be to have each alias as an individual premium user instead, and have access to those secondary mailboxes delegated to the primary. Obviously that would force you to "waste" premium licenses.

Scalix could facilitate this whole process somehow from within their connector. They just may not have a strong enough of an incentive at the moment,

Bear in mind that Scalix has stated it is very hard, if not impossible to do in Outlook. From what I can see of their SWA strategy is that they are trying to keep SWA and Outlook as close as possible in functionality (excluding tasks and notes, for the moment). So while they could easily do it in SWA (being an IMAP client), I don't know if they will do it there if it can't also be done in Outlook.

But of course the Scalix devs will have the last say in this.

to use a premium user for an email adress which is used only for "send as" is quite not convenient for me.
Scalix told me two times that i only need as much licenses as really men or woman are using email. At this point i was not aware of some facts which i will ever use, but asking about
This is not correct and this bothers me when there are licenses per user and no one give you enough information about what is usual in the market.
e.g. support in every company sends out mails with the general support@-adress. When you have several products, and have an email-adress for each (support_shoes@a.b, support_trousers@a.b...)then you even waste more licences. It doubles up when using a different domain additionally!
I really can't believe that!

This is really something only Scalix can sort out, so I suggest you ask your reseller to get in touch with them (or mail them yourselves) and explain your point of view regarding the licenses. Maybe they can give you some suggestions.
