i cant locate where its mentioned in admin guide, but i figured it out that disableing "Display contact information" from sac hides the address, but what about groups ? like ScalixUserGruoup etc do i have to delete them i canot remove its address from address book? If i delete them how do i give a user to control UsersGroups only (Limited admin) would the only way through mkaing them "Manager" over several groups and users??

Hi,

ok - so this is available for users and you're right that 'Display in address book' is the one you're looking for.

Now, this is also available for groups; there, you'll find it on the 'General' page. It's not available for those special Admin groups (although I admit it should - not sure, there might be a bug/change request logged for it).

Now - here comes the trick, there is a second way as well, through the command line, e.g.

Code: Select all

ommodent -e CN=ScalixUserAdmins -n 'EX-CDA-DIRECTORY=1'

To reverse this, you can use

Code: Select all

ommodent -e CN=ScalixUserAdmins -n 'EX-CDA-DIRECTORY='

Hope this helps,
Florian.

Thanks for the commands Florian, but if you could explain me about that command would be very good of you :) .

Well...

- the addressbook is kept in what we call the system directory.
- the ommodent command modifies entries in the directory.
- one way to identify directory entries is via their common name (or display name or CN)
- there is an optional flag on each directory entry, called EX-CDA-DIRECTORY, that, when set, prevents the entry from being included in a special index called the CDA index (Client Directory Access) on which the display order in the address book is based. If an entry is excluded from that index it's effectively invisible.
- this is the very same flag that is actually set by SAC; SAC actually executes quite exactly the same command, only that it removes the option in the GUI for the special admin groups, while the directory actually supports it.
- so.... we do it the directory way!

:-) does that help?

(man ommodent and man omaddress and man omattribs and man omaddcda might have some more details, but I tried to be brief!!!!)

Thanks that was what i needed thanks again, will get back to you guys when new question arises, By the way i also have openxchange on trail bases in envirnoment, One thing for sure about scalix: its the choice of administrators, OX isnt that challenging when you ask any administrator as scalix, I still like scalix compared to OX. the best feature about OX is the "infostore" can we get the saem feature in scalix if possible in 11.3?

Well.... - the short answer to your last question is a simple No! :-)

Going a little bit further:

1. Depending on your size and complexity of environment, Scalix will be the way more stable and flexible solution compared with OX. We do support all kinds of flexible multi-server deployments, have a single-view store (OX makes a somewhat artifical difference between eMail and anything else) and a broad and relevant clients-of-choice story, while with OX the only true client to be used would be the web client; the user experience with the Outlook OXtender typically speaks for itself.

2. Adding anything to 11.3 at this point is a no-starter; we are heading for release within the next two weeks and have code frozen about three weeks ago; the last month of a release is typically testing and last-second fixing of really critical bugs. Besides being very, very difficult and big from a scope/amount of work perspective, it's simply impossible to throw in architectural changes/features late in the process. :-)

3. Doing the infoStore, IMHO, is moving in the wrong direction, because it's storing the wrong kind of information in the wrong place. Already today, 60% of corporate knowledge is stored inside a company's email system. At the same time, 80% of the size of a email system message store is taken by attachments and files, resulting in long backup times and huge storage system requirements for an application that first and foremost is supposed to provide highly available access to communication. There are much better systems on the market for storing these data items, such as fileservers in the simple case and enterprise content management systems provided versioned file and information store in more complex scenarios. To overload a messaging/calendaring/groupware system with storing information like this in it's internal store is clearly moving in the wrong direction.

This comes down to what role such a system should have; IMHO, it's the role of an organisational information hub, managing information and channelling access to it, even for information not owned or controlled by the system. What this means is that a system in that role, such as Scalix, should actually use backend systems in various ways and make it accessible, which is quite what we are working on as part of our longer-term vision and strategy.

So - will we do an infoStore inside our system? Most likely not. Will we try to provide a better solution to the problem at hand? I think so - and it should become visible throughout various releases in 2008 and beyond. Stay tuned.

Cheers,
Florian.

no - you can set a limit, however, the default is none, i.e. ulimited.

I want to receive mails from domains like yahoo gmail etc currently i have setup scalix in my network if i use an ISP IP will i be able to send & receive mails from those domains using just the hostname.

For example if i setup my hostname as "mailserver.com" (suppose mailserver.com exist as registered website for someone) now from gmail if i add in my "to" field username@mailserver.com then will i be able to recieve emails from gmail? or i need to register a domain and use it ?

Hi

Yes you need to register your domain. When you do this your ISP will create DNS records for your domain. You then need to ask them to point your domain MX record to the external (Internet)IP address of your server. Then you will be able to recieve mails from any external persons.
