The fact that you had to create your sys directory doesn't sound good. There are over 150 files in that directory. If you're missing files, the unix gateway could end up being the least of your worries. How adverse are you to reinstalling the software?

When you have messages stuck on the unix queue, does "omstat -s" show the Internet Mail Gateway as being Started, Aborted,or Stopped?

What does "omshowlog -l 7 -s unix | tail -100" show?

omshowlog -l 7 -s unix | tail -100 shows a dozen or so log entries about the outbound internet mail gateway starting and stopping. The last entry is a startup message. Internet mail gateway is currently running with 1 msg in the queue (been there most of the weekend). It is a test server, no actual users on there yet. This is my only problem though, when i created that folder i expected several problems myself, but this is the only one so far. Mail can be sent and recived by local users and local users can recieve mail from non-local users, the only problem is outgoing, non-local mail.

FYI, i ran the installer again and chose reconfigure option to see if it would create missing files in ~scalix/sys folder but it didn't work. Would uninstall/reinstall make any difference?

It almost looks like the unix gateway doesn't realize there's a message to be processed. No errors, no nothing.

If it were me, I'd uninstall and reinstall - and watch closely for any errors or warnings.

Once a message gets to the unix gateway, it pretty much just goes right on through unless it's corrupted somehow. I don't think all your messages are corrupted :)

Re-Install

Postby smokes2345 » Fri Jan 18, 2008 3:50 pm

Ok, i uninstalled and re-installed scalix and there still isn't anything in the sys folder. What is the next step?

Did you look for warnings or errors at installation time?

Do you have files on your system with the following names, and if so, where are they located?

dir.index
dir.attribs
ftbpids.map
general.cfg
map.types
omscan.cfg
ornia
smtpd.cfg

Those files and many more (well over 100 files) should be in your sys directory.

/var/opt/scalix/m2/s/sys - this is the correct directory. /var/opt/scalix/m2/s is where the entire mailstore resides.

Well, even if everything is there, messages are still getting stuck. Got a better idea about what's going on?

Check the following (to summarise this thread a bit, there's lots of diverging effort here):

1) Does your message arrive in sendmail (check the sendmail log file)
2) If not, does it get stuck in the UNIX queue (omstat -q UNIX will tell you)

Otherwise run omqdump, do a "s" (summary) and see if you can see if there's any other queue that's filling up, maybe that will point to the solution.

Also check for files in /var/spool/mqueue and /var/spool/clientmqueue

It looks like the messages are getting to sendmail as there are errors in the mail log. It looks like it is trying to connect to an LDAP server running locally. Is there supposed to be one? we aren't really using LDAP on our other servers, is there a way we can turn it off?

I have what appears to be the same problem having upgraded a working OpenSUSE set-up from SUSE 10.1 to SUSE 10.2 and Scalix to 11.2. Everything appears to work OK but I recently discovered that mail is no longer leaving the system.

On reading this thread I found the same error message in the sendmail and appear to have mails stuck in /var/spool/mqueue.

Here's hoping we are nearing a solution as I would rather not uninstall Scalix and/or reinstall Linux if possible.

service restarted successfully but didn't seem to help anything.
