Not sure what I'm missing....

Postby jbeam » Fri Apr 07, 2006 11:17 am

I've installed Scalix before and it went ok, so I do have some experience with the process. This time, however, I just can't seem to get things going. I'm hoping that someone else can see something that I am missing:

I can't log into /sac or /webmail. I get 'service unavailable' on port 80 and 'connection refused' on port 8080.

I've installed CE 10.0.1. No obvious issues.
I've used the GUI interface to configure bind.
I can get to the Apache page with either host name or IP (listening on port 80)
Tomcat suggests that it is running
No errors in Tomcat log ...says it is running

when I lsof -i :80, it shows apache. :8080 shows nothing. If Tomcat is running, then shouldn't I see something listening on port 8080? Even if I start Tomcat manually using the startup.sh script, I get the same results.

Any suggestions? Is there something I am missing in my config?

Any help would be great!

-jason

With Scalix 10, port 8080 is not used. Everything goes through Apache and the mod_jk connector which uses port 8009.

As the "Service Unavailable" message is generated from Apache, please check your Apache error logs and also the mod_jk log files.

Typically, the problem is down to selinux not being disabled as per the release notes or /etc/hosts having something other than localhost.localdomain and localhost on the 127.0.0.1 line.

Cheers

Dave,

Thanks for the reply.

The hosts entry is ok.

Being fairly new to linux I'm not sure where to locate the log files you mentioned. Im running FC4. I've got to spend some time learning the directory structure of linux.

I'll check the release notes for the reference to selinux.

Thanks,
Jason

The apache an mod_jk logs will be in /var/log/httpd on redhat/fc and /var/log/apache2 on SuSE.

What version are you trying to install? I hope it is 10.0.1. What OS? You'll notice if you search the forum that some people have had success uninstalling sac, res, swa, tomcat, and mod_jk and reinstallling those components have had successful re-installations.

Regards,
Don
