Our support is based on the distributions that we have put through QA and also on our policy that we are supporting the Enterprise distributions from RedHat and SUSE and also the "free" distributions from the same vendors. This was the same for previous releases.

No we won't hate you, but if this were a game of rugby you might find yourself in a bit of pain, all in good fun of course. ;)

Supported platforms are:

SUSE Linux OSS 10.0 (Note: Fedora Core 3 and SUSE Linux Professional 9.3 and SUSE Linux 10 are not supported in Scalix 10.0)[/list]

HOWEVER, I believe adding OSS to the version string in /etc/Suse-release will get you going.

SUSE LINUX 10.0 (i586) OSS

Thank you! You just saved me from a tedious reinstall just to find out what the string is. :)

Supported platforms are:

    Server Software (i386, x86_64):
    Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 and 4;
    SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9;
    Fedora Core 4;
    SUSE Linux OSS 10.0 (Note: Fedora Core 3 and SUSE Linux Professional 9.3 and SUSE Linux 10 are not supported in Scalix 10.0)

Sascha.

Perhaps a large NOTICE during install that the current OS is unsupported would be a better practice to follow instead of just outright denying install.

I understand your frustration about not being able to install Scalix on your platform of choice but I would ask you to also understand why we do this.

As has been mentioned on a number of occasions, we QA every platform that we state we support. This includes a very comprehensive suite of tests for the server and clients.
This allows us to give a guarantee that the product will work under those conditions.

If we allow you to force the install, we can't give you that guarantee. It's the same reason why forcing an RPM install when all the dependencies haven't been met is never a good idea. We cannot say for certain how the product will behave.

What we're trying to mitigate is having to debug issues with the product that are down to forcing an install.

Cheers

Dave
