Network check failed?

Postby rgmhtt » Thu Mar 02, 2006 11:15 am

Ah, come on!

I get:

Network check failed -- IP address associated with host name 'z9m9z.htt-consult.com' is '127.0.0.1'

Um, yes in /etc/hosts I do have this entry. and /etc/host.conf does have: order hosts, bind

But this system is my primary domain server for htt-consult.com (well it wil be when I finish the scalix install). And nslookup has NO trouble doing the resolv right.

I guess I will have to change the order in hosts.conf.

But somehow that does not seem right.

If you spend some time looking through the forums, you'll see that there are a large number of CE installations where DNS and name resolution issues are the cause of problems that people are posting for.

If we are going to support people effectively in the forum, we have to make sure that the servers that Scalix is installed on has passed the checks that we are putting in place. That allows us to concentrate on genuine problems with the software rather than environmental issues.

In reality, there should be nothing on the local host line other than localhost.localdomain and localhost. It may work for you in some situations but it is just not correct.

Cheers

Dave
