sendmail issue following installation of scalix and clamav

I'm getting the following error message following installing scalix and clamav, I've tried setting all the directory so that it is not group writable to no avail. Any ideas would be gratefully received.

Which directory to you make non-group-writable?

I reproduced this error exactly by making /etc/mail group writable, try

chmod 755 /etc/mail

and then restart sendmail.
