Install on Suse 9.3

Postby planeo » Thu Feb 16, 2006 7:09 am

Hello,
I want install scalix on Suse Enterprise 9.3. But I got serveral errors. I can start the install after changing in /etc/SuSE-release from "SuSE Linux 9.3" to "SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9.3".
But the I got the library errors:
Dependency check failed -- Please resolve the following package conflicts and re-run the system checks:
libgssapi.so.1 is needed by scalix-server-10.0.0.175-1.sles9
libkrb5.so.17 is needed by scalix-server-10.0.0.175-1.sles9
libldap.so.199 is needed by scalix-server-10.0.0.175-1.sles9

On the system is only /usr/lib/libkrb5.so.3.2 and /usr/lib/libldap.so

I download the: scalix-core-intel-suse-10.0.0.tar.gz community edition.

How can I fix this?
Thanks

Scalix 10 is not supported to be installed under Suse 9.3. If you muck around with the installer, bad things will happen (tm).

You can fix this by installing Suse OSS 10.

Cheers,

Sascha.

Thanks, but I can't update to Suse 10. Exist an older version from scalix that runs under Suse 9.3?

I think that's insane how come scalix 10 can't be supported under 9.3 .. it's not like production servers can be upgraded everytime there is a new OS release ... Scalix is awesome but I think that's a pretty bad drawnback...

Hi btorch,

Scalix installation guide for version 9.4 of Scalix, clearly states that SuSe 9.3 Professional is supported for evaluation purposes only, therefore you shouldn't run a production server on that OS. Suse Enterprise Server 9, for example, has been supported for several Scalix releases and continues to be supported in v10.

This is what I did....
If you try to pretend you are suSE Ent 9.3 you will get a bunch of dependencies mostly because Ent 9.3 has older libs than the prof. 9.3. So pretend you are OSS 10 because OSS 10 i pretty much prof. 9.3 with some updates of course.

Before anything though download and install the libstdc++
make sure you first do a "rpm -qpl <package rpm>" so you know where the libs will go then "rpm --test -ivh " and finally just install them. Create a link to it from /usr/lib

you can find the libstdc++.so.6 that is needed by the scalix-server for SuSE 10 at http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat/3/ ... LIBCXX_3.4)

You can also get the libicals Release 44 at
http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat/4/ ... 6.rpm.html
ftp://ftp.ntua.gr/pub/linux/opensuse/di ... 4.i586.rpm

Once all the above is done if you try to do an rpm --test -Uvh on the scalix-server-10.0.0.175-1.suse100.i586.rpm package you will get no more dependencies problems.... the only thing I got find out now is how to change that /etc/SuSE-Release to pretend its OSS 10

anyway test it at your own risk

btorch,

first - and to stop us from going the route to insanity - officially we support the "free" versions of Linux only for evaluation and small installations. One downside of it is that we have decided to only support one release of those.

See my last response in http://www.scalix.com/community/viewtop ... =6278#6278 for a more thorough discussion on our support and testing policy.

For larger environments where upgrading the OS might not be practical, we do recommend using an Enterprise Linux OS such as RHEL4 or SLES9. We haven't dropped support for RHEL3 when RHEL4 came out and will probably continue to support it for a while.

On the license key thing, no, Scalix Community Edition does not require a license key to enable it's 25 free Premium and Unlimited Standard user functionality on a single server. As the installer says, just leave the license key thing empty when you run in community edition mode. The reason why it actually asks is that with Scalix 10, Enterprise and Community Edition is effectively the same software - only the license key makes the difference. This was one of the reasons for introducing license keys - upgrading from CE to EE now only takes a key, while previously an upgrade of the software was required. We wanted to make your life easier for those who need more than 25 Premium users or require EE functionality for other reasons.

Cheers,
Florian.
