Installer: bad magic number...whaaat?

Postby Detachable » Thu Feb 16, 2006 5:35 pm

No joy in more than one way. After playing the package game for a few days and luckily finding the right rpm's I'm stuck with this:

scalix-core-intel-redhat-10.0.0]# ./scalix-installer --cli
Scalix Installer - extracting archive, please wait...
'import site' failed; use -v for traceback
RuntimeError: Bad magic number in .pyc file
Scalix Installer - starting version ...
Scalix Installer - using Python 2.3.4.
'import site' failed; use -v for traceback
RuntimeError: Bad magic number in .pyc file
Scalix Installer - cleaning up...
Scalix Installer - stopped.

I'm running RHEL 4, nothing fancy beyond that. but I cant decipher what this might even begin to mean. Its' probably not an md5 issue as this other post below states, because interestingly enough I got this with the previous release as well and the md5sums matched so assumed it had something to do with the the command line interface thing... so I waited for this release to be sure and still...

Here is a similar post from May of 05. http://www.scalix.com/community/viewtopic.php?t=261&highlight=pyc

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi,

What version of python is installed?

Could you run

Code: Select all

rpm -qa | grep python

And post the result?

Thanks,
Yuri

A Google for "import site failed" seems to indicate that your Python installation is not installed correctly.

Can you give some history or check it ?

Cheers
