install scalix ce on x86_64 - a short howto

Postby prosystem » Wed Feb 15, 2006 7:01 pm

hello folks,

i know, it's not supported, but several request have already been made on this forum.

i had to get scalix ce to work on a x86_64 system. i did not have the choice of 32 or 64 bit unix/linux as it was an intel xeon system. so i had to find a way to install scalix on this platform.
i use rhel4/centos42 as os. as the packages are titled "noarch" it makes one guess they are good for all platforms. so i simply installed the rpm's on the target system. as the configuration wizard does not work on this platform i configured a second system on i386 platform with exactly the same network settings (hostname etc). i installed scalix and ran configuration wizard on this system and created a running scalix system.
then i just took /var/opt/scalix and the /opt/jakarta-tomcat-5.0.28/webapps directories and scopied them to the x86_64 system. just doublecheck file permissions and do some chmodding.

voila... the scalix 64bit system is up and running. all further configuration can be done via admin console or cli.

have fun

andreas

Actually Scalix 10 does support intel/amd x86_64 bit systems. The only 64 bit operating systems currently supported are RHEL 4, FC4, SuSe OSS 10, and Sles 9. If installing on this Operating Systems the installer will take care of all the basic configuration including Apache, Tomcat, mod_jk as well as some other third party applications.

The server does require certain 32 bit libraries to be installed. Please see the scalix installation provided with the download.

Cheers,
