Just to document it somewhere:
The installation of Scalix 11.4.1 on Centos 5 32-bit is as documented in the install manual for RedHat, but you have to install cyrus-sasl-md5.i386 additionally. i.e.:
yum install cyrus-sasl-md5.i386
