Upgrade from 11.4 to 11.4.1 went smooth

Postby grassu » Thu Jul 24, 2008 1:32 pm

Just upgraded to 11.4.1. No problems occured.
Except as always I had to run "ompatchom" after installation (see more about this: viewtopic.php?t=10791&highlight=).

Thanks a lot to the Scalix-Team.

Mine went anything but smooth. I can't blame Scalix - as the bulk of my issues were related to the fact that I upgraded the OS at the same time.

I first upgraded my OS from Fedora 7 to Fedora 9 - then attempted to upgrade my scalix from 11.4 to 11.4.1. It seemed to me like the problems were focused around the fact that PosgreSQL was upgraded and the database formats are not compatible with each other. This (I am assuming) was the first cause of the failure - so I uninstalled the whole Scalix install, leaving my message store and cache files. I then did a complete reinstall, which again failed with the following error this time:

"CRITICAL Operation failed: Web apps config function configure_res failed: Failed to change password for "query admin" user sxqueryadmin@scalix.mydomain.local. /opt/scalix/bin/ommodu reported the following error: ommodu : [OM 8040] The user can't be found, or has been deleted. "

By searching through the forums here, I found this post:

http://www.scalix.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7883&highlight=sxqueryadmin+install

which solved my problem.

Then all I had to do was reconfigure my spamassassin and clamav milters and several other things that lost their configs.

All told, it took me about 7-8 hours of work.

On a positive note, after reinstalling scalix, it picked up my existing info and ran with it. No lost emails, no lost users.

Pheww. I love scalix.

Please note that this is the very reason why we don't recommend Fedora for a production system - it changes way to frequently. If you are looking for a no-cost, stable, long-term supported production platform based on Red Hat technology, I would recommend that you consider CentOS 5 for your server.

Cheers,
Florian.

Oh come one now - don't be a hater. :)

I paused mid-post here to investigate CentOS 5 and I think I am sold. I think that this forum has some kind of "hindsight" filter on it - I find a lot more answers *after* committing to things. :)

Thanks, florian.
