Installing and restoring backups?

Postby joako » Fri Jul 04, 2008 1:27 am

I have an approx 11gb backup of Scalix data from an old server. All I know is it was running SuSE Linux 10.1 and I had to hack it to think it was SLES 10 to get that install going. Not sure what Scalix version was used for the backup or the exact hostname or IP address....

Now, I created a new virtualmachine using VirtualBox and installed openSUSE 10.2 and installed all the patches. The virtual machine is assigned its own public IP address, no NAT and no firewall.

What is the best way to proceed from here? I really just need to export the data from a few mailboxes probably just to PST files.

Mmm ... this is likely something you will need to get a professional guy in to do for you, as there could be interesting variable. But here is what I would likely try:

1) Make sure you have the correct version of Scalix installed and a empty mailstore created. You only need to install Scalix Server, not the web components.
2) Shut down Scalix
3) Make a backup of the empty mailstore (just in case)
4) Copy /var/opt/scalix/??/s to /var/opt/scalix/??/s on the server (even if the two ??'s doesn't match)
5) Make VERY sure ownerships and permissions are correct
6) run ompatchom
7) Restart Scalix
8) Check for errors and make sure if the mailstore is accessible
