I understand your security concerns but, right at this moment, we have requirement for tomcat to be run as root.

There is a workaround that will assist you with the current version of SAC but when we release our next version, there will be some features that call commands which require root access.

You're not the first person to have these concerns but, due to the operation of some of our binaries, allowing them to be run by non-root users requires some re-architecture that isn't a quick fix.

If you still want me to post the workaround, please say so.

Cheers

Dave.

I've tried adding tomcat/scalix to group root. I'm still getting the same invoker issue. The only way I was able to finally create a user account and groups was to make tomcat uid 0. Meaning, that tomcat is now defacto root, and that is just plain evil.

Please by all means, post the work around. Aside from the permission mess, with my user account I was able to send and recieve email. The user interface is an amazing peice of work. It looked very tight, and rendered on firefox without any noticable problems. I did have an issues with IE6sp1 where I couldn't send an email message (would do nothing after hitting send) but I guess that is a topic for another thread.

Thanks for all your help and support. -- Bret

I wanted to thank you again for all the help and suggestions. I've burned the system down, and went with Fedora Core 2, and I'm quite impressed with what they have done. I followed the pdf install guide, and was able to get Scalix up and running.

I plan on testing the outlook plugin and attempt an Exchange migration (test bed, not production). Any bits of information to that effect would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again, and happy holidays. -- Bret
