Upgrade to 9.4.2 filesystem check fails

Postby peterz » Sat Dec 17, 2005 4:38 pm

Upgrading from 9.4.0 to 9.4.2, during the system check, the filesystem check fails, even though the debug messages state that the Filesystem check passed, with the exception of an error message.

Debug installation message displayed:

INFO:merlin:System check start
DEBUG:root:This host has the following IP addresses: ['66.93.64.34']
DEBUG:root:This machine's host name 'mail.egad.com' and IP address '66.93.64.34' is set in DNS correctly
INFO:merlin:Network interface is actually eth0
DEBUG:root:Checking DHCP for interface eth0
ERROR:merlin:Operation failed: Network check failed -- (97, 'Address family not supported by protocol')
INFO:merlin:Operation passed: Filesystem check passed

9.4.0 has operating fairly well up to now. I don't understand what '97, 'Address family not supported by protocol' ' means.

I'm attempting this upgrade on:
- SUSE 9.3
- Upgrade from 9.4.0
- 512 MB on Pentium 4, 1.8Ghz.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Could it be IPv6-related ?

Hi,

Most 'Address family not supported by protocol' error/warning messages are due to IPv6 being enabled and activated in the kernel but no interfaces have been configured properly for IPv6.

You might want to try doing 'rmmod ipv6' as superuser before starting the Scalix installer to see if this helps.

Although I am using IPv6 on my own Scalix installation, I only enabled and configured IPv6 on the host *after* I installed Scalix 9.4.2 from scratch.

Which reminds me... if there are any Scalix support dudes around at the moment, can you confirm if Scalix officially supports either CE or EE on an IPv6-enabled host ?

Regards,
Terry

IPV6 doesn't appear to be the problem

Thanks for the suggestion.

Performed the 'rmmod ipv6' and was informed that the module didn't exist.

I'm wondering if this has something to do with the latest SUSE 9.3 patches or if this
is directly related to the 9.4.2 upgrade.

This server is used exclusively for Scalix and hasn't had any changes to it...except for setting the firewall for remote administration a few weeks ago.

I've been inclined to do the upgrade because of 'No Resources' error messages from email client programs trying send out email. Has happenned twice over the last 2 weeks and is corrected by restarting the entire server. Rather disturbing in light of the many months of flawless functioning.

I'm still open to any thoughts.
