It is Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU 5120 - that is what the cpuinfo reports.

this chip has vt extensions. you will need to enable them in the bios. then REMOVE the power from the machine. then power back on. I have had a few older machines not take unless the power was removed completely.

OK I will take a look at the BIOS and then see about taking the power out - this is ridiculous ;p

Thanks a lot for your help!

You may not have to remove the power but you will have to go into the BIOS to enable it. I have just had the intel BIOS screens read that to me.

*Crossing my fingers ;p

I have another server which I am using for my Scalix backup that has the same thing, no VT extensions shown- so going to try it on that one first to see how it works- will let you know- thanks again.

what brand of machine is it? is it a whitebox machine? some manufacturers BIOS have it on by default with no way of disabling it (but why would you want to). So they show no option.

They are the same type of servers - Dell Poweredge series.

Well I found another solution - use qemu with xen. It allows to boot the xen image from the cd.

post here: http://lists.xensource.com/archives/htm ... 01189.html

I am going to give it a shot and will report with results.

Thanks
