upgrade from 10 to 11.1 - conversion time

Hi,

We're planning our upgrade from 10.05 to 11.1. We have a 136gb mailstore for ~200 users.

I know it depends on the size and number of messages involved, but for planning purposes, can anyone give me an estimate of how much time it will take to convert the mailstore to the new file structure based on their experiences upgrading?

The indexing will take a long time. Plan 3 days plus. We're close enough now, I'd recommend that you do it over the coming long weekend.

Wow - is the server still usable during that time (i.e. does the reindexing happen in the background?)

Absolutely yes, it is. But it'll respond a slower. Users will notice it. At minimum, warn them in advance so they expect to see slower performance for a while. There are a few tweaks that can be done, idx_min & idx_max. There's lots of discussion about it throughout the forums. Personally, I'd just let it go and accept that temporary performance impact.
