OS Versions

Postby graemef » Wed Oct 26, 2005 7:40 pm

I am about to upgrade my FC3 so that I can install the current release of Scalix. I want to upgrade to an OS that will allow me to run Scalix in the future. What is the policy on OS's, how do you decide which systems to support so that I don't upgrade to an OS that will require an upgrade again next time a new Scalix is released ?

You are asking a question which is somewhat tough for us to answer, due to the fact that we don't control the end-of-life policies on the operating systems which Scalix runs on. What we always recommend for a production environment is an operating system that has support options. The OS vendor is typically responsible to povide an upgrade path for any customer paying for support, hence you are somewhat safe. A good example is RHEL3 to RHEL4. Scalix runs on both, and you can certainly run on RHEL3 (update 5 or later recommended) now. RH has provided a fairly easy upgrade to RHEL4.
