secondary mail store/server setup issue

Postby anthony.hardy » Tue Sep 20, 2005 11:40 am

I am a complete novice when it comes to mailnodes, etc in this environment. I need some help in setting up my student mail server. I have an existing functional install of Scalix for faculty and staff and was informed that to disable the calendar, I needed to have a second mail server to disable calendaring for my students. This works well b/c I need a second mail store anyway.

I am completely lost as to how to install this second server. I have read through the install guide and it mentions installing the admin console on the original server in multi server mode. Honestly, I do not remember seeing that option during the original install and a run through on the production faculty/staff Scalix server of the install program again (looking to reconfigure the admin console) doesn’t seem to show any options allowing for a multi server mode.

I did NOT install the admin console on my second box and pointed it at the primary server when prompted for the server with Scalix admin console.

On my admin console on the primary server, I can see the ip (not the hostname) of the new server under both server info and settings. However, when I click on any tab within that section, I see msgs such as “No services located on this server” or “could not fetch information about the mail locations on this server”.

Sorry for being so much in the dark . .but I could really use some help.

Hi Anthony,

It sounds like you didn't install RES (Remote Execution Server) on your second server. If you type:

rpm -qa|grep scalix

on your second server does it list scalix-res-x.y.z as an installed package?

Thanks,
Rachel
