Problem during installation on SuSE 9.3

Postby postmaster » Tue Aug 09, 2005 4:16 am

Hi,

during the installation the java and tomcat check fails.
i have installed the java-version shown in the install-guide. (rpm -ivh ....)
The installation shows no errors and it was installed in /usr/java/j2sdk1.4.2_08
But the check said no valid java sdk could be found.

How works the check ? Which directory would be checked ?

to be sure, you might want to run "updatedb" after the installation of the java JDK..... if that still fails, please start the scalix installer with the --debug option and look for further information printed in the shell window from which you started the installer.

cheers,

Further more, you can still continue the installation and then use the browse button to specify the directory where JDK is installed (/usr/java/j2sdk1.4.2_08 in your case).

Cheers,
Yuri

sorry i cannot continue, after the failed checks, there is only available (abbrechen) cancel or help. continue is grey

is there an other installer ? not graphical ?

are you using community or enterprise edition?

in enterprise edition, there is a HTML file describing the manual install process in the admin_resource_kit subdirectory inside the Scalix tarball, but before using this we should rather find the cause of the failure.

would you run an installer session with the --debug switch and post the resulting log messages here in the forum?

thx,
Florian.

Hi postmaster,

It seems that there is no Tomcat found on your system. Please either enter its home directory (CATALINA_HOME) in the dialog (the top one in the "Tomcat Configuration" screen), browse for its directory using the "Browse" button or use the mini wizard to install a new copy using the Tomcat Scalix bundles (version 5.0.28).

Only then will the Forward button become enabled so you can continue.

Thanks,

Nick.

also, for java, i believe you can set and export your JAVA HOME environment variable before running the installer. it should pick it up and use the version of java it points to by default.

Also it appears that your DNS is not set up with reverse lookup zone for your IP address. You either have to create a reverse lookup zone in your DNS or include an entry for the ip address in the /etc/hosts file. Until you resolve the DNS issue you will not be able to click the forward button and will not be able to set the JAVA and Tomcat directory.

Cheers,
Yuri

Sharp eyes, Yuri... (did you really join Support lately?)

right... the actual error line here is
ERROR:merlin:Operation failed: Network check failed -- IP address '10.45.82.81' associated with host name 'ah-lap.vapn.de' in DNS cannot be confirmed as this host's IP address

the rest are just warnings.... so this is a DNS or /etc/hosts configuration issue.....

postmaster,

I assume that /usr/share/tomcat5 is your Tomcat home (CATALINA_HOME). What version is it? The one supplied by Scalix?

Could you check the $CATALINA_HOME/conf/Catalina/localhost directory and look for the following files to ensure they exist: scalix-swa.xml and scalix-sac.xml

Also, look in $CATALINA_HOME/bin/setclasspath.sh to ensure the following 2 lines are at the top of the file:

JAVA_HOME=/usr/java/j2sdk1.4.2_07
JAVA_OPTS="-server -Xms512m -Xmx512m"

(JAVA_HOME should point to your actual Java directory and the JAVA_OPTS values should be about half your total memory, but you can tweak this if you want).

Stop Tomcat using $CATALINA_HOME/bin/shutdown.sh

Then remove (using rm -rf) $CATALINA_HOME/work and $CATALINA_HOME/webapps/caa and $CATALINA_HOME/webapps/webmail

Start Tomcat using $CATALINA_HOME/bin/startup.sh

Please watch the logs (catalina.out and caa.log for SAC) as Tomcat starts and then attempt http://yourserver:8080/sac

Hope this helps,

Nick.
