using aliases al sendmail

Postby Rafel Coyle » Mon Sep 25, 2006 2:33 am

I am setting up scalix users for the first time. We typically use the /etc/aliases file in sendmail to copy inbound mail to several users. For instance when mail comes in to Jim.Smith the we copy it to jims, markp, williamr using the aliases file. The entry in sendmail's aliases file looks like Jim.Smith: jims, markp, williamr. Is there a way to do this using Scalix or do we need to continue to use the sendmail alias file.

Use the "sxaa" utility in the admin_resource_kit directory of the software dist.

sxaa will allow you to configure autoforwarding from the command line.

However, as a footnote. The way most admin's handle this is with a Distribution List. In SAC just create a Group called "MyGroup" and add all the users that you want to receive. Then just send the email to the email address of the DL. THe beauty of this is that when you want to add/remove someone, all you have to do is edit the list in SAC.

Ok I can do this, but can I use the aliases file in sendmail

The options that you gave me were excellent choices, however, we have user names aliased to each other or their manage, and at times to a blackberry account. This would be esier using the alias file or the admin utility that you recommended. If I can use the aliase file please direct me to where I would find instructions to do so.

I like the idea of using groups, but I would end up creating almost as many groups as I have users. Besides, where where can I find more information on setting up a group to do this? I have set up a group before, but I did not see this option. please answer both questions. Pretty please.
