Is there another way to download?

Postby Dunkirk » Fri Jul 14, 2006 2:18 pm

I've been trying off and on for a week, and I've never successfully completed a download of the product to test. Is there some trick I haven't figured out? I finally started using GetRight, but even that has just now restarted the download from scratch. This must be the 6th or 7th time I've failed to get it, from at least 3 countries and probably 6 different internet providers. Is there some other place to download the community edition?

We moved hosting providers recently and, while we know we've got most things working, there are bound to be some hiccups. That said, we tested the download paths after the migration.

Can you mail me a message to support at scalix.com and tell me the IP address you are coming in on ?

Also, knowing what browser you are using to go through the download process would be great.

Cheers

Dave

It would appear that that's a big negatory. I'm in some high-rent hotel in Amsterdam, and every room has some goofball setup with a DSL modem you rent time on by the day. (Yeah, as if $370/night for a cheap room shouldn't include the cotton-pickin' $20/day for the internet access. Say what?!) A traceroute is coming back with absolutely NO IP ADDRESSES except my own. So, no, I can't tell you what IP I'm on right now. I don't even understand how I'm getting ANYTHING AT ALL from the internet at this point. This is so screwed up.

It's not you; it's me. I've bashed my head on Solaris for the past couple of hours, trying to configure the installation of Java Enterprise System I put on it. I've been working with open systems for 12 years now, and I can't even figure out how to configure one NIC for DHCP and one NIC for a static IP on Solaris x86, let alone even LOG INTO THE DIRECTORY SERVER and configure an account. And this is after my 3rd try at installing. I think I have about 30 hours in on this, and I haven't got a single email sent. Great, Sun, glad you made this steaming heap of crap free. It's certainly been worth every red cent I'VE paid for it.

So, yeah, I'm going to install White Box Linux 4.1 and give Scalix a try, provided I get it downloaded. I'm at 47% on this 3rd try today.

White Box Linux 4.

We certainly would like to see you have a successful experience with Scalix. In order for you to do so you will have to install on one of our supported platforms. They are RHEL 3 and 4, Fedora Core 4, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 9 and SuSE OSS 10. FC4 and OSS 10 installations are recommended only for evaluation purposes, however, many installations on these platforms are used in production.

Regards,
Don

Dunkirk,

just in case you cannot complete your download finally, please get in touch with me at <givenname>@scalix.com and we'll see if we can sort something out.

As for Whitebox Linux, Don is correct in that it is unsupported; however we've seen customers successfully using Centos, another RedHat clone - please check out this forum by searching for "Centos" for details and we have used it internally on some test systems; you would probably need some tweaking to get going, certainly not in the magnitude of your Solaris experience. I've been working as a contractor for Sun for years and I never figured out the gory details of JES installation - it was a no-fun thing. Scalix should be quite easier. Anyway, take your pick and obviously we recommend one of our fully supported platforms.

Let us know how it went,
Florian.

I know this is late, but you can go to What is my IP dot com to find your current public address.
