occasional missing sent email

Postby jethro.carr » Tue Nov 20, 2007 12:03 am

hi all,

One of our users is reporting that occasionally (eg: a couple of times a month) when they send an email from SWA it does not appear in their sent items folder.

Unfortunately, I've been unable to find anything in the logs or even a way to reproduce the problem. :-(

User is running Firefox 2 on Scalix 11.0.3, and is the only user with this problem. I have removed the user's imap cache, but this has not returned any of the sent items that were lost. Have also opened the user's mailbox in outlook, but the emails do not appear there either.

Has anyone else ever seen a problem like this before? I've searched through the forum, bugzilla and checked the changelogs of newer versions of Scalix, but haven't seen anything.

thanks.

Hi there, we also have this problem with only 1 user
Our Scalix IT builder (out sourced) has set up the script to clean 1 per week but today the user is reporting sent items in SWA but some missing in outlook
Not sure where to go from here but notify the Computer shop

If you sort it out post it here please

Jethro,

I'd enable audit logging for the unix gateway:
omconfaud unix 11

The next time she reports a message missing from her sent folder, check the audit log for the message. Since she's sending it from SWA the first place it will show up is at the unix gateway. SWA submits the message to the SMTP Relay who hands it to unix.in, who then hands it to the service router.

By the time the message has been accepted by the SMTP Relay and handed to unix.in, it should show up in the sent folder. If you see it in the audit log for the unix g/w but not in the sent folder, you know the problem is NOT that the message is simply not getting submitted (sent). The problem in this case would be, as you suspect, in the account and probably in the imap cache. Unfortunately this won't fix anything, it will just confirm what you already think is going on. You could also check to see if the recipient received the email but if the recipient is on another mail system this can be difficult or impossible to do, so audit logging the unix g/w is the way to go.

Your idea to check the account in OL was a good one; that means that the problem is almost certainly NOT with the client's inability to display a message that is actually there. You could double-check this with omcontain; I suspect it will only confirm what you already know.

I highly recommend you upgrade to 11.4.5 -- there have been LOTS of updates in the way the IMAP cache is handled since 11.0.
