Adding additional items to SWA tools list

Postby les.piggot » Fri Oct 28, 2005 10:00 am

Hi,

I have a working dSpam relay filtering all my mail before being delivered to Scalix community server. As part of this installation, I'm using dSpam cgi pages to control user settings, message quarantine and retraining and as a result would l like to add this link to the list. In a sense, it works a little like the Rules wizard, self contained site, using Apache as its webserver.

Does anyone have any idea how to add this?

Cheers

Les

Currently, we do not support adding user-defined items to the SWA menu bar.

However, I'll log this as an enhancement request as I think it could be a neat idea in some situations....

Florian.

thanks florian,

Is there a way to hit so it appears? What I'm trying to do is simplify (from a user perspective) and integrate spam filtering (SA is not getting about 20 -> 30% of all our mail tagged incorreclty). Having run dSpam and trained it (from my existing mail) I'm not getting 99.801% of mail correclty identified which is just fantastic. The key is in the user training the system based on their own mail. it also places the spam fitering decisions with the user, which afterall its there to help. surely there must be away to do this, any ideas?

Cheers

Les,

unfortunately, no simple one I think; SWA is an extremely complex JavaScript application using some of the latest types of technologies used in Web applications. As such, most of the UI aspects of it are hardcoded into the App. This is the new style of programming for the browser some people call AJAX (see us on the cover of Infoworld magazine and other stories in the magazine, links below).

I'll chat with the SWA guys and hear what they think, but I believe it'll not be that simple.

Anyway, I think you make a good point, I've logged an enhancement request in our respective database and this will be sitting there for Product Management to prioritize.

How big is your organization? You could also make a call through our sales organization if you really require the feature in a controlled timeframe; they have a voice in the planning, too.

Florian

Just two little thoughts, btw., to do anything at all:

1. Change the Scalix Rules Wizard link in partner.xml to point to a page of your own that acts as further dispatch between Scalix and either the Rules Wizard or your own page!

2. Put/Post an eMail message Document ("Useful Links") into a Public Folder in which you collect interesting external program links for the user.

Cheers,
Florian.

Les:

I am looking to do this, and would love to hear how (of if) you integrated the Scalix user
directroy with DSPAM. From what I have seen so far, you would have to manually add
users to the SQL database, but if the users have aliases they would appear as separate
users to the filter - this would affect accuracy. Of course the other way would be to use a
corporate wide database, but I think that reduces accuracy even more.

Any comments?
