Access external IMAP server from SWA

Postby martin » Mon Aug 14, 2006 5:17 am

Hi all.

I have just installed Scalix and would like to access mail on an alternate IMAP server from the SWA.

I have created an 'Internet mail user' in the admin tool but when I login to SWA with this new account the login fails.

I have checked the log on the IMAP server and see that the username is prefixed with 'scalix:' which is probably why the login fails. Can Scalix be configured so it only sends the user name as I enter it into the web interface?

To clarify. I enter

martin@domain.com

Scalex sends the following to the IMAP server

scalix:martin@domain.com

Many thanks in advance.

SWA will not connect to another non-Scalix IMAP server. It requires a lot of extra information from the Scalix server.

Cheers

To clarify Dave's response...

Even though Scalix Web Access uses the IMAP protocol to talk to a Scalix server, it uses a number of proprietary IMAP extensions to support it's rich functionalty, i.e. Calendaring. The IMAP protocol has specifically been designed and spec'ed for vendor extensibility and we use this feature.

We also don't offer SWA as a standalone product and there are currently no plans to do so.

If you run a Scalix server, we would recommend that you use fetchmail to import mail from the external mailbox into Scalix.

Just as a side remark, an Internet User is only a contact entry in the Scalix address book, therefore no user who can log in to anythng at all.

Hope this helps,
Florian.

Many thanks for the reply. I installed the server with swa so I will reconfigure my installation to use it.

Thanks for the prompt response.
