IE8 much slower than Firefox 3.6

Hi,

One of my clients is using Scalix 11.4.6 and the end users were complaining that SWA was incredibly slow.

Logging into SWA initially is fine for both IE8 and Firefox.

The slowness is when you click new message or double click and open an existing message. It can take upwards of 3 seconds to display the new message window in IE, In firefox its instantaneous. There is a similar delay when opening existing messages in a new window in IE, Firefox again is instant. My client says the delays can take up to 15 seconds in some cases.

i checked some other clients SWA sites and the same delays happen. It seems like IE8's rendering engine is just not as fast as firefox.

Has anyone noticed this? Any ideas?

As you mentioned Firefox 3.6 - and I know your specific question is about IE8 - but have you noticed any degradation in the SWA with Firefox 3.6? Like the scroll bars don't scroll unless you pick up the bar and move it up and down, clicking on the up and down arrows doesn't work, clicking in the space above or below the bar doesn't move the bar? This only happens in SWA. Firefox window does allow the scroll bar to move by clicking in the space above/below the bar or the up/down arrows.

Are you seeing any other issues with 3.6? I did get a warning from Scalix that the version wasn't supported but it should/could work.

I haven't really noticed anything else. I know 3.6 is not officially supported, but for me it seems to work fine. But i'm not a heavy user of the webclient. The rendering seems faster in firefox.

I also tried accessing swa on firefox 3.0.18 on a CentOS 5.4 server. Same speed as firefox 3.6. Out of curiosity i went back to IE8 and now it won't load properly for this client. Gets the usual error about "failing to display messages in the inbox." Then IE crashes and you get "an error has occured, contact your administrator #CMD016.
No amount of imap cache resets or killing of defunct imap processes fixes this. Immediately if you try firefox it works fine. There's nothing in the fatal log.

I'm not too worried, once my client say how fast Firefox was compared to IE8 it was game, set, match. Was just curious to hear if anyone else in the community had the same issues.

Not trying to hijack your post Les but just wanted anyone who is seeing issues with Firefox 3.6 as described above that it is a bug and a case is open #21303.
