Empty mail in SWA but Outlook is OK.

Postby echelon » Wed Feb 17, 2010 1:00 pm

We have an application that scans for spam and viruses (Borderware) and it sends out summaries for users to determine if e-mail is legitimate or not.

In SWA the e-mails appear to have volume (in this case 7k) but the body of the e-mail is blank, completely empty.

If you look at the e-mail in Outlook or Thunderbird, the e-mail can be read.

Has anyone come across this problem?

The summaries contain graphics and the headers define the e-mail like this;
============================================================================
MIME-Version: 1.0
Content-Type: multipart/alternative;
boundary="=_1c3308251dbed0cc8086a769d1f831bb"

I remember some issues where mime.browse fails on certain messages.
In any case you should see at least something in scalix-swa.log.

There is nothing in that log file or any other log files I am looking at.
Scalix SWA must not see whatever it's doing as an error?

My next step would be to identify the direct-ref of the message and try to mime.browse it.

Code: Select all

# sxmboxlist -u "my name" -f F-00000001 -v msg -r

If this fails to display the MIME structure correctly its an parser error and may be a bug. Depending on the Scalix version you are using it might be fixed already.

You also might want to try if the message loads in a standard IMAP-client like Thunderbird.

We are currently running Scalix 11.4.5.

Although thunderbird works fine, a lot of remote users (and even internal users) rely on the web interface. It isn't limited to one particular use.

mime.browse does seem to display the entire message (posted partially below). As you can see, there are multiple mime sections- with the spam report provided as both HTML and plain text. My guess is that the problem is with the way that SWA retrieves the message via IMAP (I believe that is how SWA retreives e-mail) and that it sees the end of the first mime section and thinks it is

/var/opt/scalix/gx/tomcat/logs/scalix-swa.log doesn't show anything when I open the message in SWA. "omshowlog -F 16:00:00" command (i.e. any log entries since 4 pm today) doesn't show my anything either.

We are using SSL encryption for SWA.

An issue related to the incorrect rendering of mulipart/alternative message in SWA has been fixed in 11.4.6.

Unfortunately the 11.4.6 upgrade does not seem to have fixed this.

Can you please try to reproduce the issue with the following steps:
- export the offending message with sxmboxexp, use -d as you already know the dref
- import the message into a new mailbox
- retest.

If the issue is reproduceable you can create a bug at bugzilla.scalix.com and attach the exportfile (marked as private).
