SWA EMail Alert/Notification

I see that message notification in swa has been accepted as a feature request:

Which is great... After spending some time searching the forums I know I'm not the only one who has users that would really appreciate this feature. Any chance this is coming in 11.4.3/11.5?

In the meantime I've been telling my users that there is sound notification available, but much to my surprise, it doesn't work. Even clicking the test button doesn't do anything. I've tried IE6 and Firefox 3 on two computers. As a test, I went to this url directly:
http://mailserver/webmail/snd/bikebell.wav and the sound plays instantly.

Is this feature really broken or is there something I should be checking in my configuration?

Check if .mid .wav files are assigned to i.e. windows media player (see options menu). I think your O.S. don't know which program to use to reproduce them.

I should've mentioned that the test worked fine from within the same web browser I use for webmail. The wav files play perfectly, just not by swa.
