Server running slow after upgrade 11.4.1

Postby keywestcity » Thu Sep 11, 2008 10:53 am

OK I've been working on this for 14 hours and can't seem to find the problem.

I'm on redhat e4

Symtoms
Server very slow (if I try to open system monitor it comes up 10 minutes later)
When system monitor does open it shows the cpu and memory as not being used much
top command show nothing major going on
webmail takes forever to open and usually fails
Outlook works but is a little laggy at times
Running a omshut takes 10 to 20 minutes
omrc starts up and shows the milter service as stopped
only problem in logs is some kind of ldap bind issue

After lots of reading it sounds like postgres but im not sure.

Would like to reinstall postgres but not sure how to do it.

I've managed to get the admin console to come up. It's very clunky and I keep getting

"could not retrieve the information for the selected user"

I click ok and then the info comes up on the screen

Very slow switching between users

That sounds like the root of your problems... if the server's slow, everything it does will be slow.

top command show nothing major going on

Does it show a high load average, and a lot of WAit state? That would be an I/O problem...

FYI

I've got support working on the issue. So far it seems that when the scalix services are running some kind of strange issues develops and lags the server. Some of the symptoms of this lag are:

Can't run top command
Can't run system monitor
Web interface doesn't work
Outlook interface DOES work

At the moment the scalix tech is running repairs on the database to see if that is the issue. Will keep you up to date when I know more. Am starting to think it could be an I/O issue...

FIXED!!!!

You guys are not going to believe this! It was LDAP hanging the server! nothing to do with the scalix update! All I had to do was turn off LDAP! three days and that was it.

Thanks Mike at Scalix/xandros support for noticing it and saving my IT butt!
