Accessing public IMAP folders?

Since info about ActiveSync is quite rare and scattered so far, please excuse me if i'm aksing dumb questions being answered elsewhere already.
Today we received our testkey and i installed AS in a test environment. Installation was smooth as silk and also was accessing the server via ActiveSync using an iPhone.
What i'm missing is access to public-folders and especially to our public-calendars (realized as public imap-folders).
This works fine in Outlook etc. and i supposed it being part of AS also. To me the ActiveSync-access seems like accessing a 'standard-user' account.
So is there a hidden switch, i didn't notice, did i screw up anything or this limitation what i should expect using ActiveSync?
