No Tools or File Menu in Outlook

Postby pinnks » Wed May 02, 2007 4:34 pm

I just upgraded server and connector to 11.0.3 and seem to have lost access to menus in Outlook. I see the File menu and Tools menu on the menu bar but then do not expand when i click on them. This means I cannot access Sclix properties or rules wizard etc, let alone everything else on those menus.

Any ideas?

Can I easily go back to 11.0.2 for ocnnectorand/or server?

Not using the connector, I can only speak from an educated guess.

But if you are missing menu choices in Outlook, I would find it very hard to believe that it is due to Scalix or the Connector. Try View -> Toolbars and make sure all the choices you need are checked off.

I've seen this odd behavior in PowerPoint, where different users logged in and see different menus. So try logging in as an Admin and see if you have all the menus.

Don't know what else to offer you! Sorry!

Generally I would agree with our suggestion but as this is my PC and user account, and I have done nothing, that was unlikely to be the case. Also, as this is the ability to access the file or tools menus that are actually visible on the normal Outlook menu, the problem is odd.

Anyway, thanks for the suggestion. Anyone else got any ideas/similar experiences?

Can you go in to >help >about Microsoft outlook >disbled Items and see if there is sign of them there, if so re-enable them

I have also seen this behaviour

This happened to me twice in the past 4 months that I have been using the outlook connector. I have found it difficult to fix. Removing the Outlook profile does not seem to fix it. However setting up a new windows profile does. The only way I have been able to fix it and retain the same windows profile is to remove all the outlook profiles. uninstall outlook & then reinstall. It seems to me to have something to do with the Outlook Rules Wizard.

Finally sorted the problem, though no idea what caused it.

I tried uninstalling Outlook and deleting Outlook profiles without success. Also help disabled items no help.

What worked was to customise the toolbars, click on "rearrange commands", select the relevant menu (Tools or File in my case) and the click on "Reset..." This must be repeated for each menu item separately, i.e. tools and file etc.

If anyone has a clue how this got "tripped" in the first place it would be interesting to know as I am not aware of having done anything abnormal.

Hi,

Has happened several times to us as well, you saved the day with that last post since it solved all our cases! Thanks! :-)

Still, would indeed be nice to know what causes this? We use a Samba 2.2 domain with roaming profiles, I've seen this mentioned in some other strange cases so could it affect? (I'm thinking not but you never know...)

I still get this now and then (once every 4 to 6 weeks perhaps).

Anyone at Scalix got any ideas?
