Hi,

I have just upgraded to 11.0.3 of the Server, an am trying out the 11.0.3 connector.
I removed the old connector and profile, and made a unique profile with the new connector software.
Started Outlook and a message about the Rules Wizard not work poped up.
Looking at the Rules wizard I see that it is the OutlookRules Wizard not the Scalix one.

Why does the Scalix Rules Wizard not show with the 11.0.0.3 connector?
How do I get it back working again?

It could be there is something in one of the existing rules which causes problems after the upgrade. There appears to be lots of changes going on to the Rules Wizard code from one release to the next.

We have constructed a test Scalix 11.0.x server and workstation with WinXP, Outlook 2000, and Scalix connector 11.0.x which is the standard deployment platform for a client of ours. Starting with "clean" 11.0.3 systems on both ends, we tried to create Scalix rules in Outlook as part of our testing procedure. There is appears to be a bug in 11.0.3 with this setup where trying to add a forwarding rule creates a rule with a screwed up forwarding email address which appears in Chinese (no kidding) instead of English. Probably created by a Unicode issue, but who knows. Once this happens the Scalix rules wizard refused to load at the start of Outlook. Removing the client, cleaning up, and recreating the profile does not fix the problem. The only "fix" for this is to completely remove Scalix from the server, including the data stores and the Postgre database and reinstall. The problem then goes away until the next time we try to add a forwarding rule. Then the Scalix rules wizard again refuses to load.

We plan to continue testing to see if we can pin down what is actually going on. Once we detirmine whether it is something we are doing wrong or if it is a bug we will either document the correct procedure or turn it in as a bug. But I'd be VERY careful when trying to update a system which uses the Outlook Connector and rules created in a previous version of the Outlook Connector.

I seem to have solved our particular version of this problem.

I disabled smartcaching on the User in SAC and recreated a new Mail profile without smartcaching.
I uninstalled Ofiice 2000 Professional and rebooted.
I installed Office 2000 Standard (installing almost everything) and also applied the Office2k SP3.

Opening outlook caused no problems atall - it seems all the critical 11.0.3 connector issues occuring previously have gone.

I will test to see if smartcache will also work in this new configuration, and post back here.

To test whether smartcache would now work I did the following.

The User had Smartcache Enabled (in SAC), and that setting saved, and the Prepare SmartCache button clicked.

The mail profile was removed.
A new mail profile creation process was initiated, however:
the "Add Service to Profile Dialog" did not have a scalix option.
Ran the 11.0.3 connector install .msi, Selected Repair.
Still no Scalix in the Add Service to Profile Dialog - So I rebooted.
Still no Scalix in the Add Service to Profile Dialog - So I repaired it again with the .msi
Still no Scalix in the Add Service to Profile Dialog - So I uninstalled it and then installed it with the .msi.

Scalix was then shown in the "Add Service to Profile Dialog".
Completed the Profile set up.

There was a crash at that the end of the profile creation.

Started Outlook.
A message about the Scalix Rules wizard not loading was presented.
Messages were accessable during this period.

The SmartCache synchronisation completed so I restarted Outlook.

At This point I am back to where I was before - unusable Outlook.

reinstalling Office Standard (plus SP3) fixes the problem again. Using the existing Mail profile with no smartcache. Looking at the "Add Service to Profile Dialog" Scalix is not listed.

Reinstalling the Scalix Connector brings the option of Salix to the "Add Service to Profile Dialog".

Not recreating the profile, but reinstalling the Scalix connector causes the Issue described in the link above to reoccur.
At This point I am back to where I was before - unusable Outlook



Removing the Mail profile.
Removing Outlook and then replacing it back using the Office Add/Remove Component option.
Reinstalling the Outlook 2000 SP3.
Removing and reinstalling the outlook Scalix connector 11.0.3 .msi
Double clicking the Outlook icon invokes the Profile editor (and a partially loaded Outlook).
Manual config for a new mail profile.
Completes without a crash and outlook finishes loading fine - no crash from profile creation!
(normally I right click the outlook icon and configure profiles - or double click of the icon in this state does not invoke the configure Profiles dialog but error messages about message stores etc).

Outlook seems to function correctly at this point. No Smartcache is setup at this point(I think there is one more test to do regarding smartcache here).

Restarting Outlook then breaks every thing again.
I was presented with a novel dialog box though


So to sum up - I do not think I got to a solution - it just seemed so since Outlook upon restart would break again on these last few tests and probably on the first tests too.

check to see if a Scalix add-in has become disabled?

Options > Other > Advanced Options > Add-in Manager


look and see if its disabled.

For the time being it seems the issue is solved by removing the AVG Outlook Plugin part of the Grisoft AVG Antivirus software.

The issue of the Rules wizard seems to be ongoing - the botch solution is to set the Root node of the Mailbox as the default starting point. This solution was found in another post on this forum.
