Have you tried an omscan -AfvxU "username" on the server yet?

use omcpotu before doing the omscan
ompoutu -n "user name" -f /tmp/username.mbox

I have never seen omscan totally "break" a mailbox. The items it deleted are usually useless.
using omcpoutu really is a safety net and will most likley not be required.
The username may actually be different to the left hand side of the internet address. You would need to perform an omshowu to see the actual usersname (but to run that you would most likely use the username anyway
).
