I have been trialling Scalix (using the community edition) for three months and am unable to make the categories functionality work reliably in Outlook 2007. I have a test user set up who can get to a premium account via SWA, Outlook 2007 on a desktop PC (Windows 7) and Outlook 2007 on a laptop PC (also Windows 7).
If the user right clicks on an email or appointment to set a category it is “hit and miss” as to whether this works. For some categories (e.g. the Red category which has been renamed “Important”) it works fine while for other categories (e.g. the Green category) the user completes the action in the dialogue box (e.g. rename Green category and then assign it to the appointment) but when they save the modified appointment the category goes back to the default name and the appointment “Loses” the categorisation (i.e. it does not “stick”).
I have tried out a number of variations on performing this procedure and there does not seem to be a consistent patterns to the failures (e.g. works on a new category but not an existing one etc). There does not seem to be a way to assign categories in SWA.
Has anyone else had this problem and were you able to resolve it? Is it a known issue with a documented workaround?
I have tried the following fixes with no success:
• Re-install Scalix Connect (problem reproducible 100% of the time)
• Try a different client (problem reproducible on two machines both W7/OL2007)
• Reinstall Scalix Server from scratch in a fresh VM (same problem as before)
n.b. I am also experiencing (possibly unrelated) problems with Scalix Connect add-ins and Tasks in Outlook – please see list at the end of this post.
