[SOLVED] Outlook 2007 – Scalix add-ins not loading

I have been trialling Scalix (using the community edition) for three months and have a problem with Scalix Connect for Outlook which I cannot resolve. SC4O is installed (see version numbers at end of this post) and working for send and receive (there are some other symptoms, see below). However when Outlook starts the following dialogue appears:

Scalix connect:
‘Scalix Menu Extension’: Scalix-specific menu items  will be missing
‘Scalix Out of Office’ : You will not be able to configure your Scalix Out of Office without this


The symptoms are exactly as described in the dialogue – no Scalix-specific options appear in any of the menus (although when adding a new account the option to connect to Scalix is present and this works fine).
Has anyone else had this problem and were you able to resolve it? Is it a know issue with a documented workaround? (I’ve read the forum extensively and can’t find a solution.)

I have tried the following fixes with no success:
• Re-enable the add-ins (they were not showing as disabled)
• Ensure Outlook is not in safe mode (it isn’t)
• Re-install Scalix Connect (problem reproducible 100% of the time)
• Try a different client (problem reproducible on two machines both W7/OL2007)
• Reinstall Scalix Server from scratch in a fresh VM (same problem as before)

Server OS: Centos 5.4 x86_64 (running under in a Xen 3.4 virtual machine)
Scalix version: scalix-11.4.6-GA-community-rhel5-intel.bin
Outlook connector: Scalix Outlook Connector 11.4.6.9214
Desktop OS: Windows 7 Professional / Windows 7 Home Premium
Outlook version: Outlook 2007 (12.0.6514.5000) SP2
Anti-virus: Avast Home edition
Other clients: Scalix Web Access (over HTTPS), iPhone (Using secure IMAP over Stunnel)

Other issues
Tasks not working
Categories unreliable
Sent items show as read
Scalix Connect for Outlook crashes iTunes

hi,

Remove the Outlook profile from the Control Panel > Mail > Show Profiles > Delete ALL Profiles showing in this panel
Remove all data that MS remove profiles leaves behind.
Remove all data from C:\Documents and Settings\"User name"\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\*
Remove all files from C:\Documents and Settings\"User name"\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\*
Remove all files from C:\Documents and Settings\"User name"\Local Settings\Application Data\Scalix\Scalix\MAPI\Profiles\* [/code]

Now all remnants of faulty data should now be totally gone such as to ensure that we can start with a fresh Outlook

try again.

which other add-ins did you load?

Hi,

We were experiencing the same issue and had to remove the iTunes Outlook plugin. In another case it was a Microsoft Live plugin etc. It is 99,9% a misbehaving plugin issue.

This problem was solved by removing Avast antivirus and replacing with AVG.

Hope this helps some other users out there.

This problem has happened to me 3 times this week. Twice with windows 7 and now once with XP . I cannot see why as I loaded win7 with office and the latest connector as I have been doing for months. No AV installed, no addins disabled.. This is becoming a real issue. Any advice welcome..

I have just had a VERY clever person show me the solution

TOOLS > TRUST CENTER > ADD INS > MANAGE "EXCHANGE CLIENT EXTENSIONS"

SELECT GO and then DELSELECT "exchange extensions property pages"

select OK and then restart OUTLOOK 2007

all working and tested on 2 different machines win7 and xp
