I installed the IE7 update KB976749 today and after rebooting, I immediately had a problem sending (forwarding) email from Outlook 2007, which basically crashed with the usual restart option. Tried sending a variety of emails, all with the same result. Following this I reverted to the restore point from yesterday and after rebooting, Outlook 2007 is working fine again. Not sure how an IE7 update can impact Outlook and Scalix, but sharing this in case anyone runs into a similar problem.
