stop Outlook from opening automatically

Hello,
On my laptop, Outlook and smart chache always start automatically in the tray a few minutes after I boot. Is there a way to stop them from starting automatically? I've checked startup folders and msconfig, and I don't find anything. I even changed the scalix service from automatic to manual and it still happens. I work a lot offline and I only want Outlook to open when I open it (after I have connected to our VPN). It often behaves funny when it opens automatically, (for example not loading add-ins).
I use XP Pro, Outlook 2007 with all ms updates, connect version 11.4.3.8048, server version 11.4.3.12339.

This is not Scalix. However, certain other applications (e.g. iTunes, Skype, MS ActiveSync, etc) open Outlook in the background. I am fairly certain it would be an application similar to this.
