Send mails using different aliases or using external SMTP-Ac

Hi,
I search through the forum about this issue, but I can't find a solution for this problem just many people are interested to use this.
I have for example five mail-addresses (aliases) so is it possible to change the alias in Outlook 2007 if it's connected over Scalix Connect ?
An other thing is that I can add external POP3/SMTP-Accounts in my Scalix Profil but if I use the send through button and change it to an external account it's ignored.
Is there a solution in the 11.4.2 version or will be a solution integrated into the new 11.5 version ?
Thanks.

No, none of those work. You can use a POP3/IMAP client to switch aliases, or use mailbox delegation. And as for multiple accounts in a profile, it causes big issues.
As for 11.5.0 - you will have to see if Florian answers here.

But this functionality would be a very helpful improvement of the Connector !

You should file a bug report in
http://bugzilla.scalix.com - but I think there's one already. The developers say it's not easy to do at all, given how Outlook passes the information back to the server. I personally wouldn't use it, but I know needs are different.

I use a total of 4 email addresses (all on different domains) - so I bit the bullet and just installed Thunderbird for use with my other 3 email accounts and I just leave Outlook and Thunderbird open all the time.

Yes that's a realy poor solution if we must use two mailclients...

Or two profiles within Outlook.
Again, not an ideal solution.
Anybody come up with anything less unpalatable to users? I've got some here who want to send as <task>@domain for some things, and <user>@domain for most things - and they don't want the <task>@ to contain any personal identifier - so <user> On Behalf Of <task> is less than acceptable.
They're just moving from IMAP, so "But this is an Outlook restriction" is not going down well, since this worked fine before. But, of course, they don't want to lose all the other good stuff that the Outlook connector gives on top of IMAP...

I did see a post (from Florian I believe) that mentioned connectorless Outlook on the horizon, maybe version 12??? I am assuming that once they can do away with the connector, we can add multiple accounts again.

I wish I shared your optimism, but I think this is more a generic MAPI restriction (Outlook-against-Exchange can't do it, either, AFAIK) than a particularly Scalix problem. Just wondering if anybody had come up with a neat little workaround.

Hi Everyone,
Saw your question and maybe this is an answer for you.
Use Multiple profiles. You can set outlook to prompt you for the profile to use. I have done it in the past when troubleshooting scalix issues and that works really well for multiple accounts, even on different domains.
go to Control Panel -> Mail -> Show Profiles and create as many profiles as you want. Click the radio button "Prompt for a profile to be used" and every time you start outlook you will be asked which mail profile you wish to use. You can have Scalix on one profile and your other standard POP3/SMTP on the other profile. If you wanted to go further, you could have one profile for each account, that way all the mail is separate.
Further research revealed this article from Microsoft which might be closer to what you are looking for:
Code: Select all

I understand this is related directly to accounts on an exchange server. If I remember correctly Scalix is "Exchange Like" Just replace all the "Exchange Server" with "Scalix Server" and give it a try.
Hope this helps you out!
Sincerely,
Sideband Samurai

The users don't like that, due to the constant closing & re-opening of Outlook (many users leave a stack of message windows open, often half-edited or with attachments also open) - and the high likelihood of sending messages from the wrong identity.

It works, but gives the "<user> on behalf of <role>" from: address. Again, not user-acceptable.
With two IMAP accounts, you can just select the from: line you want. Job done.
