Crash with "New Mail" notifier

Postby Mouseclone » Thu Sep 04, 2008 9:53 am

Is anyone else having issues with the "new mail" notifier in Outlook? I'm running version 2003 of Outlook. When the "New mail" notifier pops up, and I want to delete a message, I click the X and Outlook Crashes.

IInformation:
Scalix Server v11.4.1
Scalix Connect v11.4.1
Smart Cache is ON

I have yet to redo the account with out smart cache, mainly because I have some users using smart cache.

Is anyone else having this issue? Should I even be looking at Scalix for this problem? I'm wondering if the message is downloaded fully before I click the X on the notifier and that is causing the crash.

Any thoughts?

I did get it fixed. I switched from Smart cache. I'm not sure if that was the saving grace though.

What I did was uninstall Scalix Connect. I then went though and deleted the trash left behind in Program File (for the life of me i don't know why programs don't clean up after themselves). Then I went though documents and Settings for my profile and deleted the directory where smart cache was - normally found @ c:\documents and settings\%username%\Local settings\Application data\Scalix.

Then I went though the registry. I cleaned out Scalix from there as well. All this clean up. I also deleted the registry keys for my outlook profiles. You don't have to do that though the registry though, just clean them up in outlook itself.

After all of the clean up work of all the profiles was done. I reinstalled Scalix Connect. Then started a new profile, and set it up with out Smart Cache. Now this may have worked with smart cache, but I can say that it would have.

If you have to use smart cache - because of laptop - then I would clean it all up. Then do all of the updates to windows and office. After that, do the install of scalix and set up smart cache.

I think that i had the issue after an update to outlook or office. I can't say for sure because I do not delete emails from the popup notifier much. I just know that something was corrupt, and that doing major house keeping is about the only way to fix it.

reinstall of OL, Scalix Connector and recreating the profile seems to have fixed it
